Gene Sherron, age 78 of Oshkosh entered into the Savior's presence on Monday morning, December 12, 2005, at Northpoint Medical and Rehab Center, with his wife, children, and grandchildren surrounding him.
He was born May 16, 1927 in Union County, Arkansas, the son of Claud and Ella (Bean) Sherron. He served our country during the Korean War with the Army Engineer Corp. where he maintained and built bridges and roads in Korea.
On September 20, 1952 he married Marilyn DeVoe. He worked for 33 years with Firestone, retiring in 1990. He gave his time helping the Cub Scouts, especially the softball teams, for seven years. He also shared foster parenting for four years. He was a beloved member of Plymouth Congregational Church in Oshkosh. He used his incredible fishing skills for ministry, cleaning his catches and sharing the bounty with elderly members and friends. He ushered for church services since 1983 enjoying fellowship with the Young At Heart group. He loved camping, hunting, fishing, and sharing those times with sons and grandchildren.
He is greatly loved and will be sadly missed by his beloved wife: Marilyn; sons: Robert (Ann) Sherron of Dallastown, Pennsylvania, and James (Faye) Sherron of Beaver Dam; 15 grandchildren: Elizabeth, Matthew, and Benjamin of Pennsylvania, and Faith (DR) Strong, Josiah, Justin, Hope, Charity, Joel, Jonathan, Jeremiah, Rachael, Hannah, Judith, and Grace; dear friend: Mason Martinez; and three great-grandchildren. He is further survived by his sisters: June (Bill) Reed of Wichita Falls, Texas, Mae Slater of Crane, Texas, and Lena (Billy Joe) Dutton of Garden Valley, Texas; brother-in-law: Jerry (Joy) DeVoe of Arcadia, Florida; and special cousin: Jeri (Norm) Bounds of Oklahoma. His parents; infant brother, Clyde; and sister: Bernice Kneupper preceded him in death.
Funeral services for Gene will be held at 12:00 Noon on Friday, December 16, 2005, at Plymouth Congregational Church, 1325 Georgia Street, Reverends Rick Hopkins and Lynn Scovil officiating. A time of visitation and support will be held at the church from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Entombment will be in Lake View Memorial Park.
