George Frederick Kafer, 73, was called to his Eternal Home on Monday, December 4th, 2006 with his loving family at his side. George was born on February 11, 1933 to George L. and Adeline (Nipko) Kafer. He has two surviving brothers, Kenneth G. and Leonard P. (Paula) and his Uncle Bob and Bettie Nipko.
He graduated from Berlin High School in the Class of 1951. On November 21, 1951, he left for the US Navy which brought him many experiences, including taking part in the first H bomb test. He always said they were the proudest years of his life.
While traveling around the world in the Navy, he kept close contact with the girl he called his "sister" - Dorothy Rodencal, whom he married on December 29, 1956.
Together God gave them seven wonderful children. Peggy (Jim) Hendricks, George (Gwen), Mike (Florence), Christopher (Gina), Patrick (Stacy) and Polly (Shawn) Thomsen. Kathy Sue was budded on earth, but is blooming in heaven. George was richly blessed and enjoyed 15 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
George came out of the Navy on the flip of a coin and took over his father's family farm which has been in the Kafer family for over 100 years and still is today. George's passion for farming carried over from his love of threshing with his Grandpa Nipko in his childhood.
He was a life long member of Eureka United Methodist Church, one of the founders of Pickett Steam & Gas Club, respected member of the Symco Threshermen, and Rumely Collectors, of which many wonderful friendships have been made.
His family invites all to celebrate his fulfilled life with a memorial service on Saturday, December 9, 2006, at Eureka Methodist Church, with a gathering from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. and service at 3:00, with Pastor Don Olm officiating, with good fellowship to follow.
His wishes were that his grandson Zac, and daughter Polly take him on one last Rumely ride with his ashes through his life long town of Eureka to the Eureka cemetery where he will receive military honors and graveside rites. . The family would be honored by your presence as they grant his wish on Saturday, June 16, 2007 at 1:00 P.M. at the Eureka Cemetery.
