Georgia Rose Augustine Harmon, age 71, former Oshkosh resident, went to her eternal rest on Thursday, October 7, 2004, at the Care Partners Assisted Living facility in Winneconne. She was born on June 18, 1933 in Mount Carmel, Illinois, a daughter of the late Harold and Birdella (Whitsett) Harmon. She was raised in southern Illinois and graduated from Decatur High School. Following graduation she married William C. Augustine. Together they had three daughters. Georgia earned her degree in social work from UW-Oshkosh and worked for Winnebago County on the Foster Care Unit. She started the Parents Without Partners Program, volunteered for Father Carr, the Foster Grandparent Program of Winnebago Mental Health Institute and hospice. She was a mentor for the Each One Teach One program and a former member of Plymouth Congregational Church.
Surviving are her daughters, Cathy (Henry) Graf of Oshkosh, Caren (Mark) Maly of Appleton and Alice (Paul) Gest of Oshkosh; grandchildren, Mindie and Chadd Asuma, Marsha Maly and Parker Gest; sister, Glenna (Frank) Fitzgerrel and their children Steve and Becky of Bourbonnais, Illinois. Her twin brothers, Dr. Robert and William Harmon preceded her in death.
Services for Georgia will be held at 7:00 PM on Monday, October 11th, at the Seefeld Family of Funeral Chapels, 1025 Oregon Street, the Rev. Lynn Scovil officiating. Family and friends may call at the Seefeld Oregon Street Chapel on Monday beginning at 4:00 PM. She will be laid to rest at 10:00 AM on Wednesday at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Moweaqua, Illinois. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the caring staff of Care Partners Assisted Living and Aurora Hospice during her illness.
