Obituary

Gerald E. "Jerry" Hellwig, age 84, of Omro, died Thursday evening, March 27, 2008 at Park View Health Center in Oshkosh. He was born December 5, 1923, the son of Ernest A. and Laura T. (Peterson) Hellwig. Jerry was a 1942 graduate of Omro High School. He married Marjorie Miller on May 25, 1957, in Fond du Lac. Jerry retired from Mercury Marine where he had worked as a tool maker. He operated Elder Row Dairy for 20 years with his father, and 10 more years alone. He was the co-owner with his wife of the Omro Motel for 24 years. Jerry loved to hunt, fish and the outdoors. He was an avid golfer and sports fan. Jerry was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church in Omro, and also served as a Session member of the church. He was a past member of the Omro Kiwanis Club, and throughout the years, assisted in many endeavors of the club, one of which was running Bingo at Omro Care Center. He was also a member of the Springbrook Sportsman Club. In his retirement, Jerry and Marge very much enjoyed traveling. While on their many trips, photography was a passion of Jerry's and he would often capture memories, landscapes and the beauty of nature to share with others.

Jerry is lovingly survived by his wife, Marjorie; step son, Terry (Donna) Sharkey of Omro; step granddaughters, Mona (Jeff) Schmidt and Lisa Sharkey (Mark Frank); step great granddaughters, Bailey Palecek and Ava Sharkey; step great grandson, Cory Schmidt; brothers, Kenneth Hellwig of King and Arden (Wanda) Hellwig of Mentone, California; sister in law, Bernice Miller of Fond du Lac; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Mark; brother in law, Claude Miller; sisters in law, Rose Hellwig and Betty Hellwig.

In respect to GeraldÂ's memory, visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at the First Presbyterian Church, 955 N. Webster, Omro from 3:00 P.M. until the time of the funeral service at 6:00 P. M. Burial will be in the Omro Junction Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established for the First Presbyterian Church in Omro.
