Obituary

After many rounds, the fight was called. On May 31, Jerry was finally at peace.

Gerald Mathew Johnson was born on June 30, 1934, in West Allis to Wesley and Mae Johnson. He attended Marquette High and was proud to say he was part of the undefeated football teams of 1950-1952. His education at Marquette solidified his strong faith and love of learning. After a stint at Marquette university, he joined the Marines and in addition to boxing he excelled at being the "Radar O'Reilly" of his unit. His stories of antics in the Marines kept his family amused for years.

Returning to college Jerry met and married Pequitte Schwerin and had two children that were his world.

Jerry was a phenomenal dad and taught us the art of sarcasm, love of art, music appreciation, love of learning, kindness towards others and self-reliance.

He was constantly giving to others whether it was chocolate, clothes or little trinkets he loved.

Like his mentor Don Quixote, he was constantly jousting at windmills and defending the down trodden. He was the risk manager at UW-Oshkosh and enjoyed traveling to conferences across the states.  Later the title of "parking Czar" was added and he loved to banter with staff and students regarding tickets.

He met and married Carol Burich in 1982 and together they added a bonus sister for us to harass and adore.

Jerry is survived by his children, Mary (Matt) Bayens, Eric (Laura Johansen) Johnson and Sue (Jeff) Schumerth; grandchildren, Hannah (Jan-Michael Vincent) Tupas, Fletcher Bayens, and Calvin and Tyler Schumerth; his sister, Margaret Maxel and many niece and nephews. He is further survived by his best friends, Tom Smeeton and Tom Flahrety.

Preceding him are his wife, Carol; his parents, Wesley and Mae Johnson; and his two brothers, Wes (Arlene) and Richard (Katherine) Johnson. As well as his beloved pets, Wolfee and Serdchik.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in his honor.

A visitation will be held at St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church, 830 Westhaven dr. on Monday June 30th, 2025, at 1200pm with a mass to follow at 100pm.  Military Honors will take place at church after mass. His final resting place will be Sacred Heart cemetery.

Special thank-you to the staff at Sharehaven and Tammy of Aspera care Hospice.
