Gerald W. Mathias, age 64, of Oshkosh, died Friday morning, March 9, 2012, at Crestwood Kilkenny Cottage in Neenah. He was born on May 2, 1947, in Minot, North Dakota, to John and Emma (Mautz) Mathias.
An Army Veteran, Gerald was employed by the Veterans Administration at VA hospitals as a nurse's aide until his retirement. He enjoyed reading his bible and studying the scriptures. He was well-known for his morning coffee breaks.
Survivors include his mother, Emma Mathias of Oshkosh; his siblings, Phyllis Watters of Oshkosh, Jeffrey Mathias of Oshkosh, Ingrid (Wayne) Leuthold of Granger, Indiana, and Jody Kohlhoff of Oshkosh; nieces and nephews, Jason Mathias, Justin Mathias, Estee Mathias, Dylan Kohlhoff, Chelsea Kohlhoff, Courtney Kohlhoff, and Janae Leuthold; and several great nieces and nephews. Preceding Gerald in death is his father and a niece, Julie Watters.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 16, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. in Seefeld Family of Funeral Chapels, 1025 Oregon Street. Interment will take place in Riverside Cemetery. A time of visiting and sharing of memories will be held on Friday from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral chapel. Gerald's family extends a special thank you to the nursing staff of Kilkenny Cottage who were his "sweethearts" in his daily care.
