Obituary

Gertrude M. Snelling, age 99 of Oshkosh died Saturday, February 04, 2012 at Evergreen. She was born on October 10, 1912 in New London, Wisconsin, the daughter of Edward and Pearl (Belonger) Rossey. Gertrude attended parochial school during grade school years and Lincoln High School graduating from high school in June 1930. She then attended Mercy School of Nursing in Oshkosh graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1933. After graduation she continued employment with Mercy Hospital as a surgical nurse and record librarian continuing until she married Phillip Snelling on March 4, 1934. She has been a member of St. Peter Catholic Church since taking up residence in Oshkosh.
During the years of World War II, Gertrude served as a volunteer with the Oshkosh Visiting Nurses Association. In 1952 she re-entered the nursing profession as office nurse for Doctors Guenther, Graber and Isom continuing until her retirement in 1975. Gertrude enjoyed gardening, was an avid golfer, played bridge and loved to travel.
Surviving Gertrude are her daughter, Sharon (Gilbert) Roderick of Oshkosh; grandchildren, Kevin (Rocio) Roderick of Milwaukee and Martha (Larry) Harsch of New Brighton, Minnesota; great-grandchildren, Whitney and Trey Harsch and Madeline and Ricardo Roderick. She is also survived by her sister, Rebecca Carew of Appleton. Gertrude was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brother, Robert Rossey.
Mass of Christian Burial for Gertrude will take place at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at Most Blessed Sacrament Parish, St. Peter Catholic Church, 435 High Avenue, Oshkosh with Reverend James Jugenheimer officiating. The family will greet friends at the church from 10:00 AM until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Oshkosh Food Pantry or Most Blessed Sacrament Parish.
The family would like to express their deep gratitude to the staff at Evergreen for the kind and compassionate care that was given to Gertrude.
