Gloria A. Miner spent much of her 85 years giving to others. She was born April 18, 1922 in Cambria and passed away on Saturday, February 9, 2008. Her life was highlighted by a marriage to John W. Miner on November 19, 1949 which lasted until his death on May 24, 1997. They had a daughter, Barbara (Thomas) Miller of Wausau and granddaughter, Erin Miller. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents, John C. and Lydia F. (nee Umbreit) Rowlands; son, Kevin Miner; sisters, Joyce Rowlands and Frances Sontag; brother, Ralph Rowlands; sister-in-law, Alice Rowlands; and brother-in-law, Charles Sontag.
Gloria was a member of First United Methodist Church, Friends of Oshkosh Public Library (for which she served as president several times) and the Twentieth Century Club. She served on the Interior Committee at the Morgan House, volunteered with Widowed Persons Service and was involved with gathering historical information of the Frank Stein & Co. House. She truly enjoyed volunteer work through her last position as Vice President of the Resident Council at Wausau Manor. She also took pleasure in reading, bridge and the company of many friends. Gloria was employed with Frank Stein & Co. - an exclusive woman's apparel shop and tea room, the Boston Store and Marcus Theaters Management Company. She also spent 20 years working at the Oshkosh Area United Way.
A memorial celebration will be held on June 23, 2008 at First United Methodist Church, 700 W. Linwood Avenue, at 11:00 AM lead by the Rev. Steve Kaehr. Family and friends may gather at the church beginning at 9:00 AM. Inurnment will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
