Gomer William Roberts, 74, a physician, radiologist and inventor, died Monday, April 5, 2004. Burial arrangements are with Seefeld Family of Funeral Chapels in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Dr. Gomer William Roberts was born April 5, 1930 in Racine, Wisconsin. Gifted with a keen intellect, a formidable competitive spirit, and a green thumb, "The Gome" was a dedicated healer of people, plants and pinball machines. Dr. Roberts invented a recycling machine for an X-ray developer and a revolutionary improvement in GI diagnostics. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa and was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha, receiving bachelors and medical degrees from the University of Wisconsin.
Gomer married Jean Loper, M.D., a physician, and they had two daughters, Julia and Jennifer, who survive. The family moved from Madison, Wisconsin to Sheppard AFB in Wichita Falls, where Gomer served as a U.S. Air Force Captain. They stayed in Texas, moving to Euless, where Gomer worked for decades. His wife Jean died in 1983.
Daughter Jennifer Katherine (aka Jenny Church) lives in Astoria, Oregon, with husband Dr. David Raiklen, and her children, Reveille Jean and Sterling Isac. Daughter Julia Jane lives in Glendale, California with husband Eric Lewald, and sons Carter William and Alec Bohlson. In addition to his daughters and grandchildren, Gomer is survived by his sister Sally's five sons. He spoke often of his nephews. Other survivors include his oldest brother Bob Roberts and family, and his wife Annabelle Riehm of Green Valley Arizona, whom he married in 1998.
A memorial service will be held for Gomer on Saturday, July 31, 2004 at twelve noon at Seefeld Funeral Chapels, 1025 Oregon Street, Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Inurnment will immediately follow the remembrance service. Fr. Steven Powers will officiate graveside.
