Gordon Chase, age 89, passed away at his home on Tuesday evening, January 28, 2003. He was born on August 15, 1913 in Auroraville, WI the son of John and Evelyn Young Chase. As a child he moved to Berlin and later to Eureka, graduating from Berlin High School in 1932. He married Margaret Kuehn on July 13, 1942 in Omro. Shortly after their marriage, the couple moved to Omro.
Gordon was a hard worker. He worked at Koro Creamery for 14 years, then for Kraft foods, later working for Bordens for 16 years supervising 6 field reps.
Gordon was an active member of the Omro community. He was a former Mayor and served on the City Council. He was a charter member of the Omro Kiwanis, serving as treasurer for many years. He was a charter member of the Omro Area Development Corporation and served on the board for 40 years. He was a member of Omro Lodge #168 F. & A.M. for nearly 60 years, and served as Past Master and Secretary of the Lodge for 36 years. Gordon was a Past High Priest of Winnebago #43 Royal Arch Masons for nearly 60 years. He was a member of Oshkosh Council #8, Royal & Select Masters, Oshkosh Commandery Knights Templar #11 and a Drill Team member for many years. He belonged to Wisconsin Scottish Rite Bodies of Green Bay and was a former presiding officer in two of the Bodies. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Omro for nearly 50 years, and a former member of Session and Board of Trustees of the church.
Gordon was always helping others. He took many children in need to the Shriner's Hospital in Chicago. He will always be remembered as an active volunteer in the Omro area, who always giving of himself.
He will be missed by one brother, John Neil (Nona) Chase of Eureka; 2 sisters, Avis (the late Barney) Terrien of Lake Geneva and Ruth (the late Gordon) Belmont of Ripon and several nieces and nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret, his parents, a brother, Howard Chase and a sister Vera Satrang.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, Feb 2, 2003 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Omro Funeral Home, with a Masonic Service to follow at 5 P.M. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, February 3, 2003 at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Omro. Burial will follow at Eureka Cemetery.
