Obituary

Gordon E. Hoeft, age 92 of Oshkosh, passed away on April 23, 2009 at Aurora Medical Center. He was born on August 26, 1916 in Oshkosh, the son of Edwin C. and Linda (Voigt) Hoeft. On June 19, 1948 he married Elizabeth "Betty" Schenk in Oshkosh.
Gordon was a member of First English Lutheran Church and an avid gardener throughout his life. He was well-known for his interest and ability to grow the perfect tomato; and harvest intact halves from the stubborn hickory nut. Gordon was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for over 30 years, retiring in 1980. During WWII he served as an ammunition supply technician with the rank of T/Sgt. In the 427th Squadron of the 303rd Bomb Group operating in the European Theater and was awarded the Bronze Star.
Surviving are his wife, Betty of Oshkosh, and a daughter, Susan Tatum of Winter Springs, Florida. Also surviving are a sister, Gertrude Rehwinkel of Oshkosh; a niece, Karen (William) Mantei of Littleton, Colorado; a nephew, Bruce (Paula) Rehwinkel of Townsend, Montana; and four grandnieces.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 P.M. on Monday, April 27, 2009, at Seefeld Family of Funeral Chapels, 1025 Oregon Street, with the Reverend Martin Ruge officiating. Visitors may greet the family following the service.
