Gordon L. Moran passed away peacefully on Friday, June 24, 2016 at Omro Care Center, Omro, Wisconsin. He was born on September 16, 1929, son of Gordon Sr. and Elizabeth (Jungwirth) Moran. Gordon attended Omro Public Schools and graduated from Omro High School in 1947. On July 9, 1949, he married Elaine Magnuson of Winneconne. They made their home in Omro, where they have resided their entire marriage.Gordon was employed as a mechanic at the Ford Garage in Omro before completing a course of study in radio repair. He worked at Kossel's TV and Appliance, Oshkosh, for several years, and was also employed for a time as part-owner in a television and appliance repair business, P & M Service, with Edward Paulick. Gordon also worked in manufacturing at U.S. Motors, Standard Kollsman, Medalist Industries, and as an electrician at Arrowhead Conveyor and Nercon Engineering, retiring in 1991. After retirement, Gordon continued to operate his television repair business under the name of Moran TV, and was a local dealer for Zenith Products. Gordon was a member of the Omro Kiwanis Club, the Knights of Columbus and the Omro Historical Society. He also participated in local governance, serving several terms as an Omro City councilman and one term as municipal judge.Gordon was an accomplished musician and played the piano, electric organ, accordion and mandolin. He was very fond of British operettas, particularly the compositions of the composers Gilbert and Sullivan. The Mikado was his favorite of their works. Gordon served as organist for several years at St. Mary's Parish, Omro, where he was a lifelong member.Hunting, boating, snowmobiling, traveling, collecting model cars and watching the Green Bay Packers were among Gordon's favorite pastimes. Civil War history was of special interest to Gordon. He was a member of a civil war battle reenactment organization, the Chicago Light Artillery of Arlington, Illinois. This involvement led to Gordon's purchase and assembly of a ¾ scale Union cannon, the firing of which he demonstrated at Omro's Fourth of July celebrations for many years. Gordon was an avid reader, and assembled a collection of books on a variety of historical subjects over the years. He also owned an extensive collection of Civil War memorabilia. In addition to these hobbies, Gordon also enjoyed camping trips with his children and grandchildren.Gordon was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Ronald Moran. He is survived by his wife, Elaine; a sister, Joan Case, Horicon; daughters, Karen (Pete) Hielsberg, Oshkosh, Kathy (Keith) Coats, Winneconne, and Pauline Wienandt, Oshkosh; one son, Greg (Julie) Moran, Omro; seven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.Cremation as taken place. Private services for the immediate family will be held at Kwiatkowski Funeral Home, Omro, at a later date.
