Obituary

Gordon L. Stiller, life-long resident of Omro, passed away on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at the age of 80. Gordon was born in Omro on October 18, 1936, the son of the late Sherman and Helen (Dodson) Stiller. After graduating from Omro High School in 1955, he went on to serve in the United States Air Force as a load master, eventually becoming Master Sergeant during his 13-year tenure. Gordon proudly served during both the Cuban Missile Crisis and Vietnam. Time in the military allowed him to see the world, visiting more than a dozen countries. Upon returning home, he rekindled his youthful romance and married Marsha Hinderman on December 28, 1968, lovingly sharing a life with her for the next 48 years. Soon after his marriage to Marsha, Gordon began a career at Mercury Marine as a draftsman and die designer, earning patents in the development of the lost foam process. Two of his machine designs, named Gordy 1 and Gordy 2, are still in use today. After a noteworthy career, he retired from Mercury in 1995 to pursue a home business full time with his wife. Gordon and Marsha sold wildlife and other patterns to wood carvers and hobbyists, around the world. Some of his numerous affiliations include: American Legion Hamilton Post 234, National Wood Carvers Association, Ohio Decoy Carving Club Association, Ward Museum, Midwestern Model Ships and Boats, and the International Nautical Research Guild. Additionally, Gordon attained the rank of Eagle Scout, was an Elder at First Presbyterian Church, which he helped build (including the carving on the baptismal font and lectern), and charter member of Omro Bow Hunters Club. His passions included ship modeling and wood carving (which garnered him international notoriety), as well as painterly executions in petit point. Despite his many talents Gordon will ever be remembered for his overt generosity and personal humility. Gordon is survived by his wife, Marsha; children: Wanda Marie Taylor of CA, Lyle Dean (Jennifer) Mansavage of Oshkosh, Mark Allen of CA, and John Dennis of CA; grandchildren: Nathan (Jeanette) Taylor, Briana (Matthew) Partlow, Sean Miller, Avery Allen, Paige (Marcos) Gonzales, Grant Allen, Shyanne Allen and Chanel Allen; great-grandchildren: MacKenzie, Ian, Casey, Aiden, and Isaiah; and sisters: Jo An Kolodzik of Omro and Sherry (Les) Mier of Fond du Lac, along with numerous In-laws, nephews and nieces; and his furry little companion Heidi. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Alvin (Luise) Stiller; and baby sister, Janet. A visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 955 N. Webster Ave., Omro with Rev.
