Obituary

Gordon S. Wilson, age 83, of Oshkosh, passed away March 9th 2004 at Omro Care Center after a lengthy battle with diabetes and its affects. Gordon was born January 8th, 1921, in the town of Warren in Waushara County, the son of Calvin and Leola (Warner) Wilson. He married Ruth Moriearty the daughter of George and Agnes Moriearty on November 29th, 1941, at St. Josheph s church in Berlin, Wisconsin. Gordon served in Guam with the U.S. Navy during World War II. Gordon worked for many years as a dairy farmer in the Eureka / Berlin area and later moved his family to Oshkosh and worked for Duwe Precast Concrete for many years, until his retirement in 1981. Gordon was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener, particularly enjoying going fishing with his sons and grandsons and teaching them everything he had learned about where and how to catch fish. For many years, from the time of his retirement and until about a year ago, Gordon walked several miles every day at Park Plaza in Oshkosh, where he always said he met a lot of other nice people who also spent time there walking for exercise.
Gordon and his wife Ruth had twelve children. Gordon is survived by seven sons; Gary (Sharon) Wilson of Berlin; Richard (Kay) Wilson of Naples, Florida; Jeff (Sharon) Wilson of Omro; Peter (Kathy) Wilson of Oshkosh; Robert Wilson of Oshkosh; Allan (Debra) Wilson of Oshkosh; Calvin (Connie) Wilson of Ripon; and four daughters; Jeanne (Leo) Hinz of Sheboygan; Marilyn (Orval) Osheim of Ripon; Lola Wilson of Oshkosh; Kathleen (Charles) Prince of Oshkosh. Gordon is also survived by 27 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two brothers, John Wilson of Wautoma, and Ronald Wilson of Birmingham, Alabama; three sisters, Dorothy Gabel of Wild Rose, Hazel Kalata, of Oshkosh, and Gloria Ryan of Berlin. Gordon was preceded in death by his loving wife Ruth in 1982; their daughter Susan Wilson of Winneconne in 2001; and a grandson, Paul Wilson of Oshkosh in 1995. Gordon was also preceded in death by one brother and five sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 13, 2004 at the Seefeld Family of Funeral Chapels, 300 N. Eagles Street with the Reverend Ralph Hanusa officiating. Entombment will be in Lake View Memorial Park. Family and friends may call at the funeral chapel on Saturday from 1:30 p.m. until the time of service. A memorial fund has been established in Gordon s name with the diabetes research foundation.
