Harland J. Clausing, age 82, of Oshkosh, died Tuesday morning, August 25, 2009 at Evergreen Retirement Community. Born on August 7, 1927 in Port Washington, Wisconsin, to Orant and Adeline (Witt) Clausing, Harland helped on the family farm on Omro Road, near Oshkosh, as a young man.
During WWII, Harland served with the U.S. Army Signal Corps in Germany, France, and Spain. He helped to restore communication lines in Europe after the war. For 23 years, Harland was employed by Winnebago County Highway Department, from July of 1966 to August of 1989. Gardening was a passion of Harland's and he took immense pride in his ability to nurture and grow things.
Those left to mourn his passing is a sister, Anita Simonsen of Milwaukee; a brother, Jim (Eunice) Clausing of Neenah; a nephew, Robert (Kate) Clausing of Neenah; three nieces, Betty Clausing of Neenah, Pat (Morey) Worthington of Milwaukee, and Joyce Simonsen of Milwaukee; 3 great-niece and nephews, Zachary, Jennifer, and Jake; and one uncle, Orvin Witt of Germantown. Preceding Harland in death are his parents and a brother-in-law, Tony Simonsen.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 30, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. at Seefeld Family of Funeral Chapels, 1025 Oregon Street, with Reverend Vicki Marxen of Aurora VNA Hospice, officiating. Military honors will follow the service and Harland will be laid to rest in Lake View Memorial Park.
