Hazel I. Canniff, age 93, passed away peacefully Monday evening, January 12, 2009 at Fountain View Care Center in Ripon. Born Hazel Irene Easton on April 19, 1915 in Hopeville, Iowa to Thomas L. and Amy E. (Carlen) Easton, she grew up in Casey, Illinois. On July 29, 1944 Hazel married James B. Canniff in Milwaukee, celebrating 50 years of married life in 1994.
Shortly after Hazel and Jim were married they moved to a home on West 3rd Ave. in Oshkosh, enjoying her neighbors, Gary and Barb Boyce and their girls, Robin and Jennifer. This also presented her the opportunity to babysit Marlene and Jerry Krueger's boys, Mark and Todd. In later years Hazel and Jim lived at Evergreen Retirement Community. Jim passed away on July 9, 2002.
Employed by Deltox Rug, Standard Kollsman, Diamond Match, Copps, and K-Mart, Hazel enjoyed flower gardening, playing the Hammond organ, and her love of dogs, especially her chihuahua, Mitzi. Hazel was a long-time member of Zion Lutheran Church in Oshkosh.
Left to mourn her passing is a sister, Lola M. Farrell of Casey, Illinois; a sister-in-law, Charlene Easton of Huntsville, Texas; a nephew, Larry (Marge) Easton of Neenah; great nephews, Brian (Gloria) Easton of Oshkosh, Robert Easton of Neenah, and Russell (Tammy) Easton of Neenah; a great niece, Diane (Jeff) Schraufnagel of Neenah; other nieces and nephews, William Farrell, of Casey, Illinois, Marcia Hamilton of Horizon City, Texas, Marilyn Stopek of Chicago, Illinois, Debra Johnson of Huntsville, Texas, Cynthia West of Hopewell, Virginia, Bud Easton of Florida, Judy Jones, Sandra Skierkowski, Terry Easton, and Ron Easton all of Michigan City, Indiana, Jane Daugherty of Oshkosh, and John Daugherty of Green Bay. Preceding Hazel in death are her husband; parents; four brothers, Gerald, William, Wayne, and Leon; and one sister, Doris.
Private family memorial services for Hazel will be held in April with inurnment at Lake View Memorial Park Mausoleum.
