Obituary

Hazel E. Schoonover (nee Flanagan), age 92 of Waukau, died peacefully at her home on Monday morning, June 20, 2005. Hazel was born on April 28, 1913 in Florence County to John E. and Victoria (Charbonneau) Flanagan. She attended Outlet Elementary School, in the Town of Nepeskum, graduated from Omro High School in 1932 and Oshkosh Normal School in 1935. She taught at Outlet Elementary, Bennett School, Waukau State Grade School and St. Joseph Catholic School and substituted at many schools. She also worked for Winnebago Mental Health and Omro High School in the Food Service. On August 27, 1941 she married William E. Schoonover at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Omro. They owned and operated the family farm for 49 years together, until Billy died on August 1, 1990. After that she continued to live and run the farm with her son, Gerald Schoonover. Hazel was a member of St. Mary's Altar Society, taught catechism, was a member of Blue Bell Homemaker's Club and Hazel's Angels Motorcycle Club in Waukau. She enjoyed walking on the farm, doing latch hook, family gatherings with her pride and joy, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Hazel is survived and will be missed by her sons, James Schoonover of Waukau, Michael Schoonover of Chattanooga, TN, Patrick (Connie) Schoonover of Waukau, Gerald (Jodie) Schoonover of Waukau and John (Debbie) Schoonover of Waukau; her daughters, Susan (Philip) Kratz of Hancock and Vicki (Richard) Behm of Omro; her 18 grandchildren, Philip W. Kratz, Cheryl (Pete) Rausch, Jeff (Jill) Schoonover, Richard (Carol) Behm, Rebecca Behm, Rob Behm, Greg Behm, Todd Schoonover, Brian (Heather) Schoonover, Curtis (Jessica) Schoonover, Jennifer Schoonover, Chad Schoonover, Julie Schoonover, Kyle Schoonover, Kassie Schoonover, Kathy (Tim) Shreve, Jeremy Schoonover, and Laura Schoonover; and her seven great grandchildren, Marcus & Megan Heidger, Nathan & Matthew Rausch, Mollie & Emma Behm and Ariana Schoonover, many nieces, nephews, other relatives, her constant companion, Bo the dog, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William; two grandchildren, Mark Kratz, and Kristin Kratz Heidger; her daughter-in-law, Betty Schoonover; and her brothers and sisters.

Visitation for Hazel will be held on Thursday, June 23, 2005 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Omro Funeral Home, with a Vigil Prayer Service at 8:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Friday, June 24, 2005 from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00 am with Fr. Joseph Mattern officiating. Burial will be in the Omro Cemetery.
