Helen E. Lewis, age 94, of Eureka, died Tuesday evening, January 31, 2006 at Mercy Medical Center. She was born August 17, 1911, the daughter of William and May (Sachs) Gehrke. She was educated in the Omro School System, and was a graduate of both the Omro High School and the Normal Teachers College in Berlin. Helen married Everett O. Lewis on January 9, 1932. Together they owned and operated a dairy farm in the Town of Rushford until their retirement in 1967. Everett preceded her in death on August 14, 1995. Helen enjoyed traveling, reading, cooking, embroidering and crocheting. She also spent her time gardening and tending to her flowers. Helen was a devoted wife, mother and a proud grandmother.
Helen was loved and will be missed by her sons and daughter in laws, Wilbur E and Sandra Lewis of Eureka, Robert and Marion Lewis of Eureka and Armand W. and Christine Lewis of Omro; daughters and son in laws, Darlene M. and Ron Besaw of Redgranite and William King of rural Berlin; brother and sister in law, Wilbur and Emma Gehrke of Omro; 16 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, daughter, Janet; sisters, Lorraine Brazee, Edna Moldenhauer and Bertha Carpenter.
In respect to Helen's memory, a Visitation will be held at the Omro Funeral Home on Thursday, February 2, 2006 from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. and then again on Friday, February 3, 2006 from 9:30 A.M. until the time of the Funeral Service at 10:30 A.M. with Rev. Edward Slusser officiating. Burial will follow in the Eureka Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church Building Fund in Omro.
