Helen M. Svatos, 92, of Oshkosh passed away on Saturday, May 26, 2007, at Bethel Home. She was born in Milwaukee on June 21, 1914 to William and Rose (Niles) Poker. On May 7, 1938 she married Norbert Svatos.
Surviving are her son, Norbert (Rita) Svatos of Oshkosh; son-in-law, James Nichols of Kenner, Louisiana; half-brother, Larry Poker of Milwaukee; and three grandchildren, Dr. Michelle Svatos (Dr. Erick Chell) of Oakland, California, Randy and Greg Nichols both in Louisiana. Her daughter, Carolyn Nichols, sister, Lucille Semrau, brother, Adrian Poker, and grandson, Norbert Michael Svatos, preceded her in death.
Helen grew up in Milwaukee. She and her family moved to Oconomowoc in 1957. In 1987, several years after her husband died, she moved to Oshkosh to be near her son. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, May 29th, at St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church, 830 Westhaven Drive in Oshkosh, the Rev. Father Daniel Felton officiating. Family and friends may gather at the church beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will be in Oconomowoc at St. Jerome Cemetery.
