Helen H. Wollangk, age 95 of Oshkosh, died at Oakwood Manor on Wednesday, December 22, 2010. She was born in Oshkosh to William and Anna (Knapwurst) Greenman on August 29, 1915. On April 3, 1943 she married Gilbert O. Wollangk. After just 12 years he died on November 19, 1955.
To support her family, Helen worked for Oshkosh B'Gosh, Miles Kimball, and the Oshkosh Public Schools. She was a life member of Wesley United Methodist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher and treasurer. She was a member of Sarah Suzanna Circle and served on the board of trustees. Her love of cooking and sewing led her to volunteer in the church kitchen preparing food for the county fair, funeral meals, and for the construction crew during the building of the church. As a talented seamstress she served as a sewing leader in the 4H program educating a new generation.
Surviving Helen is her son-in-law, Donald Jowett; sisters-in-law: Rhea Wollangk, Geraldine Wollangk, and Helen Greenman; eleven nieces and nephews; other extended family; and many friends. In addition to her husband, Gilbert, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Sharon Jowett; twin sister, Hazel Otto; brother, Carlyle Greenman; and sister, Caroline Greenman.
A funeral service for Helen will be held at 6:00 P.M. on Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at Wesley United Methodist Church, 761 Florida Avenue, with Reverend Jakes Voker officiating. A time of visiting and sharing memories will be held at the church on Tuesday from 4:00 P.M. until the time of the service. Interment will be in Ellenwood Cemetery.
