Henry "Hank" Sorenson, age 76 of Oshkosh passed away at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Stacy and Dennis Resop on Friday January 13, 2006.
Hank was born in Manawa, Wisconsin, August 4, 1929. He married Donna Mae Dies in Oshkosh September 2, 1954 at Wesley United Methodist Church formerly Tenth Street Methodist Church.
Hank was a member of St. Andrew's Lutheran Church. He was active in LAFF and STAMP and other committees. Hank was an avid bowler and bowled in the singles and doubles leagues, as well as tournaments, for many years. Henry served his Country proudly, being in the United States Navy from November 1946 to August 1966. During his years in the Navy he spent much of his time in the Pacific. He recalled his ships reunions with many fond memories. He retired from Georgia Pacific.
Survivors include daughter: Stacy (Dennis) Resop; sons: Scott (Kelly) Sorenson and Kurt (Cindy) Sorenson; grandchildren: Matthew, Sarah, and Eric Abraham; Ian, Evan, and Cameron Sorenson; and Kent Sorenson; brothers-in-law: Walter (Brenda) Dies and Robert Ruedinger; extended family: Curt and Leslee Jepson; plus nieces and nephews. Preceding Henry in death were his beloved wife, Donna Sorenson and his parents.
Funeral services will be held at St. Andrew's Church, 1100 East Murdock, on Tuesday, January 17, 2006 at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Ralph Hanusa officiating. A time of visitation and support will be held at the Seefeld Family of Funeral Chapels, 1025 Oregon Street, on Monday, January 16, 2006 from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. and again at the church on Tuesday from 11:00 A.M. until the time of service. Burial will be in Lakeview Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers a memorial to the American Cancer Society, Relay for Life, has been established. Hank was an inspiration to other cancer patients as well as a role model. Those who knew Hank will miss him.
The family is grateful to Aurora Hospice, the staff at Evergreen Manor, and Dr. Dar and Dr. Duell and their staff for the care and support that was given to Hank and the family. Your kindness will never be forgotten.
