Henry J "Hank" Verbeke passed away on November 29, 2007 at Aurora Medical Center. Hank was born on August 12, 1917, the son of Alois and Flavia Verbeke in Lake Forest, IL. He married Lucille Johnson in Lake Forest on April 17, 1943. Hank and Lucille would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this April, 2008.
Hank attended Lake Forest schools through the 8th grade, and graduated from Highland Park High School in 1934. Hank was employed by the U.S. Government Postal Service as a carrier for 30 years in Lake Forest, retiring in 1977. Upon retirement, Hank & Lucille moved to Berlin, WI. Hank was an avid sports fan, played golf, loved to work crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles and play cards. He attended most Berlin High School athletic events, of both boys and girls; he was probably their most dedicated fan. His true loves include the Bears, Cubs, Notre Dame and of course, the Packers.
Hank is survived by his loving wife, Lucille; one son, Thomas (Suzy) Verbeke of Richmond, VA; grandson, Scott (Natalie) Verbeke, granddaughter, Kristen (Raymond) Whelan; great granddaughter, Peyton Whelan all of Richmond, VA , his daughter in law, Debbie Verbeke; granddaughters, Jodie (Curt) Palka, Lyndsay (Jason) Castaneda, all of Grayslake, IL. Hank's son, Ron preceded him in death. Hank is also survived by his brother in-law, Fran Walenter of Florida and Eunice Johnson, sister-in-law of Minocqua, along with many nieces, nephews and friends. Hank is further survived by a loving extended Wisconsin Family.
Hank was preceded in death by his four brothers, Robert, Gerard, Julian, Joseph; his sisters, Julia Kennedy, Sr. Margaret Magdalene Verbeke and Mary Walenter.
A Memorial Service for Hank will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2008 at First Presbyterian Church, 955 N. Webster Ave., Omro, at 12:00 noon, with a visitation from 10:00 until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to American Heart Association and the American Cancer Association. Burial will be at a later date in Lake Forest Cemetery in Illinois.
