Herbert E. Kirk, 76, passed into eternal life October 13, 2006 due to complication from surgery to repair an aneurysm. He was born February 28, 1930 to Carl and Elizabeth Kirk. Herb lived on his family farm all 76 of these years, taking it over from his father. He was a steadfast Christian with his love and trust in Jesus shining throughout his life. Dedicated to his family, he made sure this Christian faith was passed on to his children and grandchildren. A lifelong farmer, Herb was a heartfelt steward who carefully built a herd of registered Holstein cattle, planted and tended his fields, readily shared his knowledge, or lent a hand to others in time of need. Investing in his community, Herb served on the Burdick Cemetery Association for most of his life and as president for the past 18 years.
Herb approached all things in life with vision and passion. He hunted many types of game on his land, sharing this land with family and many friends. The annual gun deer season was a ritual Herb never missed. In his retirement years, Herb's boyhood love of fishing was rekindled. He loved music. As children, Herb and his brother Richard filled their home with music. As an adult, Herb played drums in several bands. As a husband and father, he played accordion and organ at home to bring music into the life of his family. Beyond playing and listening to music, Herb loved dancing. He loved a good polka and danced the waltz with great finesse. He also was a bowler, belonging to leagues in Omro and Berlin over much of his life. Herb loved to travel and see the world and enjoyed many bus trips with Florence. Recently, he had great fun with his friends in the Monday Night Tractor Club.
Herb is loved and will be missed by his wife of over three years, Florence (Patt) Kirk; children, Nancy (David) Albright of Omro, Peggy (William) Seuffer of Omro, Randall (Pamela) Kirk of Menomonee Falls; step-children, Mary Jo (Larry) Leemon of Lomira, Donna (Daniel) Gross, David (Peggy) Patt, Timothy (Lori) Patt, of North Fond du Lac, Ronald (Becky) Patt of Oshkosh, Diane (David) Mand of Fond du Lac, Debbi (Barry) Wegner of Pickett, Linda (Gary) Monday and Sharon (Rex) Bloechl, both of Oshkosh; and Lisa Miller of Kenosha; sister in laws, Beverly Kirk of Waupaca, Frances Kirk of Eureka; ten grandchildren, two great grandchildren, 23 step-grandchildren, six step-great grandchildren, other relatives and many friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; former wife, Mary (Gibson) Kirk; three brothers, Arnold, Eldor and Richard Kirk and his step daughter, Judy Pahlow.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 19th, 2006 at St. John Lutheran Church, 168 Mound St., Berlin with Rev. Bryan Lundquist officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Riverside Cemetery in Oshkosh.
