Obituary

Herman E. Paffenroth, age 88, of Oshkosh, died Friday, March 23, 2007 at Aurora Medical Center in Oshkosh. He was born on August 10, 1918 in Oshkosh to Conrad and Katherine (Paffenroth) Paffenroth. Herman married Janet Friedrich on May 31, 1952 in Crown Pointe, Indiana.


After graduating from Oshkosh High School, Herm joined the Merchant Marine and sailed the Great Lakes working for the Clifford Cliffs Iron Co. as an engineer on iron ore freighters until WWII. He served in the U.S. Navy during the war and afterward returned to the Merchant Marine again working on the Great Lakes. He became a pipe fitter in the early 1950's working for Kimberly Clark (Neenah), American Motors (Kenosha), and then Rockwell International in Oshkosh until his retirement in 1980. Herman was a member of the American Legion and a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church in Oshkosh. He was an avid sports fan on all levels but especially loved the Packers and the game of golf, being a scratch golfer in his prime. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.


Herman is survived by his wife Janet; a son Dr. Jeffrey (Carol) Paffenroth of Appleton; a daughter Sandra Paffenroth of Oshkosh; two grandsons Trenton and Braeden Paffenroth and a granddaughter Skylar Paffenroth all of Appleton. He is further survived by one sister: Louise Kolaske of Oshkosh; and two sisters-in-law: Beatrice Paffenroth of Oshkosh and Corrine Paffenroth of Green Lake. Preceding Herman in death are his parents, six brothers: John, Conrad, Alvin, William, Rueben, and Richard Paffenroth; and two sisters: Marie Heller and Clara Martin.


Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 26, 2007 at 1:00 pm at Zion Lutheran Church, 400 N Sawyer St. Oshkosh. Reverend Jeff Knoll will be officiating. A time of visitation will be held from 12:00 to 1:00 pm at the church prior to the service. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Parkview Health Center, 725 Butler Avenue, P.O. Box 10, Winnebago, WI 54985.
