Herman W. Schumacher, age 98, of Oshkosh, died Wednesday morning, June 1, 2016, at Harbor Haven Health and Rehabilitation in Fond du Lac. He was born on November 24, 1917, in South Milwaukee, the son of Hugo and Hulda (Pulster) Schumacher. Herman married LaVerne Volkman on August 9, 1942 in Oshkosh, and they enjoyed over 71 years of marriage together. She passed away in 2013. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and longtime member of the Eagle's Club, serving as president in 1951. Baseball, bowling, golf, and horse shoes were favorite activities for Herman. He was employed by Gidding and Lewis, in Fond du Lac, as a machinist, and also by Ideal Products, in Oshkosh.
Left to mourn his passing are five sons: Gregory (Nancy) Schumacher of Elkins, West Virginia, Gary (Kerry) Schumacher of Fond du Lac, Rod (Debbie) Schumacher of Richmond, Minnesota, Randy (Kara) Schumacher of Denver, Colorado, Laird (Nanci Carmella) Schumacher of Oshkosh; two daughters: LaNette Weinkauf of Denver, Colorado, and Donna (Richard) Crawford of Racine, Wisconsin; 21 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren; sisters: Janet Dillie of Markesan, Nancy (Harry) Suhr of Crystal Lake, Illinois; and a brother, Richard (Bev) Schumacher of Oshkosh. Herman is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, sisters Mildred Miller, Joan Viergutz, Patricia Nickel, and Mary Jane Schumacher; brothers: James and Thomas Schumacher; and a son-in-law, Richard Weinkauf.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 10, 2016, at 12:00 p.m., at Grace Lutheran Church, 913 Nebraska Street, with Reverend Chadwick Graham officiating. Friends will be received at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Grace Lutheran Church in Herman's memory would be appreciated. Herman's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the entire staff of Harbor Haven Health and Rehabilitation in Fond du Lac for their wonderful care of Herman over the last few years.
