Irene M. Gutsmiedl, age 85, of Oshkosh, passed away after a brief battle with cancer on Friday, February 25, 2005 at Mercy Medical Center. She was born on July 4, 1919 in Brooks, Minnesota, a daughter of the late Albert and Matie (Rosenthal) Kienast. She married Carl Anton Gutsmiedl on February 5, 1938 in Oshkosh. He preceded her in death on November 13, 1985.
Irene had worked for the Athearn Hotel and Zellmer's Laundromat. She greatly enjoyed making wonderful meals for her family, was an avid bowler and loved gambling at casinos, especially contributing to the Menomonee Casino. She will be sadly missed by the casino and all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include four children; Gail (John C.) Hanegraaf of Appleton, Inez Kloiber and special friend Ray Washkovick of Oshkosh, Douglas (Vicki) Gutsmiedl of Kaukauna and Linda (Ken) Johnson of Oshkosh; grandchildren; Kevin (Vicki) Hanegraaf, Peter (Wendi) Hanegraaf, Stewart (special friend Tasha) Hanegraaf, Melissa (Gerry) Estreen, Dean (Paula) Kloiber, Kelly (Kevin) Kaminski, Jamie (fiance Adam Wyngaard) Gutsmiedl, Brooke and Blake Gutsmiedl, Katie and Kevin Johnson. She is further survived by a brother, LaVerne Kienast, other relatives and many very dear friends. She was preceded in death by a son, Gary; a son-in-law, Bill Kloiber; brothers and sisters, Gladys, Florence, Raymond, Lillian and Delbert.
Funeral services for Irene will be held on Tuesday, March 8, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. at the Seefeld Family of Funeral Chapels, 300 N. Eagle Street. Family and friends may call at the funeral chapel on Tuesday, March 8, 2005 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in Lake View Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.
