Irene E. Ross, age 83, of Oshkosh, died peacefully March 29, 2008 at Bethel Home. She was born June 15, 1924 in Oshkosh, the daughter of Carl and Elizabeth (Luft) Ostwald. Irene married Clarence Greeninger on October 13, 1943 and he preceded her in death January 15, 1945 during the Battle of the Bulge. Irene married J. Edward Ross October 16, 1948 and he preceded her in death January 29, 1994.


Irene was a homemaker for many years and due to her husband's illness, joined the workforce as secretary at The Lemberger Company, Mogul-Ed, and Godshall Paper Box. She enjoyed and shared her many needlework and superb baking talents. Irene was a charter member of Calvary Lutheran Church. "Grandma" Irene was an active fixture in the Leatherman Classic Country Dance program throughout the state.


Irene is survived by her children, Karlene (Dennis) Leatherman, Gary (Claudeen) Ross, and Dennis (Heide) Greeninger, all of Oshkosh; grandchildren, Amanda (Tim) Tornow, Gary (Kim) Ross, Diane (Tom) Johannes, Peter (Suzy) Greeninger, Paul (Jen) Greeninger, Mike (Heather) Leatherman, Russ Leatherman, Kristine (Rob) Lange, Lisa (Corey) Kasuboski, and Brian Olson; 19 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Wayne (Mildred) Ostwald of Oshkosh and Don (Clara) Ostwald of Oviedo, Florida; and a sister, Marlene Morris of Menasha. Preceding Irene in death are her husbands and parents.


Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 3, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. in Seefeld Family of Funeral Chapels, 300 North Eagle Street, with Chaplain Cathie Vander Velden officiating. Interment will be in Ellenwood Cemetery. A time of visitation and sharing of memories will be held on Thursday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral chapel.
