Jacqueline M. Zarter, age 88, of Jackson, Wisconsin, and formerly of Oshkosh, died Thursday afternoon, February 15, 2018, at Grafton Medical Center. She was born on December 20, 1929, in Oshkosh, the daughter of Jack and Pauline (Goerlitz) Safford. Jackie married Rudolph Berger in 1949 and later married Gerald Zarter in 1960. They both precede her in death.
Family time was very important to Jackie and cooking was a big part of it. She also enjoyed researching genealogy, sketching, watching Westerns, almost all genres of music (she sang in several choirs), was a member of the Oshkosh Community Chorus, traveled the U.S. and several foreign countries, and was an avid reader. Jackie was known to say that any day was a good day if chocolate was involved.
Survivors include her children, Karen (Greg) Bidwell of Rubicon, Wisconsin, Kevon (Virginia) Berger of St. Cloud, Minnesota, and Bruce Zarter of Winneconne; four grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth (Jen) McGuire-North of Utah, Jacob Bidwell of Colorado, Ryan Bidwell of West Bend, and Ethan Bidwell of Rubicon, Wisconsin; a sister, Sandra (Greg) Chapin of Oshkosh; and nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Preceding Jackie in death are her parents, husbands, daughter, Jo-Ellen Berger, and a daughter-in-law, Katherine "Kitty" Zarter.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 22, 2018, at 6:00 p.m. in Seefeld Funeral Chapels, 1025 Oregon Street, with Pastor Kelly Jahn officiating. Interment will take place Friday, February 23, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. in Lake View Memorial Park.
