James E. Van Alstine, age 67, of Groveland, California, formerly of Georgia and Wisconsin passed away on November 22, 2006 in Georgia, after a lengthy illness. He was born in Omro on September 7, 1939 to Edward J. and Myrtle Lois Van Alstine. He was confirmed at the First Presbyterian Church in Oshkosh, where he was a long time member. He was also a member of the Presbyterian Church while living in Georgia.. He served as Chief of Police for the City of Omro from July 1962 to October 1964. Most of his life was devoted to law enforcement in Wisconsin and then later in Georgia. Jim enjoyed woodworking, deer hunting, gardening, fishing, boating and listening to music, especially George Jones, big Bands and Merle Haggard.
Jim is survived by his sons, Michael (Pam), James (Donna), and Jeffrey, all of Georgia; four grandchildren, James, Jr., Tiffany, Michael and Leigh; three sisters, Carol (Ronald) Hughes of Texas, Judith (Larry) Roessler of California, and Sandra (Glen) Niemuth of Wisconsin; his brother, Edward (Pat) Van Alstine of Georgia, and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held at the Omro Funeral Home, on Friday, December 1, 2006, from 9:00 to 11:00 A.M. with a memorial service to follow at 11:00 A.M.. Jim will be laid to rest in the Omro Cemetery.
