Obituary

James John David Markofski, age 73, of Oshkosh, entered into eternal rest on May 22, 2005 at Mercy Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was a born on May 6, 1932 in Berlin, Wisconsin to Anton and Helen (Pernitzke) Markofski. He attended Saint Stansislaus Catholic School and Berlin High School. Jim was drafted during the Korean War in October 1952 and was honorably discharged in October 1954. He married Kathleen Anne Diley of Omro on October 5, 1957 at Saint Mary Catholic Church in Omro and she preceded him in death on November 20, 1991.
Jim was employed by the Wisconsin Prison System in Waupun on February 1, 1955 and held various positions for 30 ? years including being Supervisor at the Winnebago State Prison Farm. He retired from Corrections on June 1, 1983. After retirement he worked for Chief Equipment, Loomis Armored, and the Town of Oshkosh snowplowing.
Jim married Liz Urnes on May 6, 1994 at Saint Peter Catholic Church. He was a member of Saint Peter Catholic Church, Winnebago Conservation Club, Catholic War Vets, AARP, and Saint Peter Ushers Club. For many years Jim was a volunteer Town of Oshkosh Firefighter, retiring as Assistant Chief.
Survivors include his wife: Liz Markofski of Oshkosh; two daughters: Roxane (special friend, Ron Hale) Fitch and Lori (Bobby) Burns, both of Oshkosh; four sons: Randal (Debi) Markofski; Ronald (Toni) Markofski; Jeffrey (Lisa) Markofski; and Jerry Markofski, all of Oshkosh; two step-children: Janet (Jim) Betts and Perry Urnes, both of Oshkosh; six grandchildren: Dustin Williams, Karisa Markofski, Kayla Markofski, Morganne Markofski, Nicole Markofski, and Madeline Foord; five step-grandchildren: Angela (Daniel) Smidl, Anthony (Jennifer) Betts, Scott (Jennifer Triphan) Brehmer, Brenda (David Knaack) Brehmer, and Heather Mason; one brother: Tom Markofski of Eureka; three sisters: Louise (Bernard) Sedarksi of Berlin; Mary Kieper of Nekoosa; Sandi (Jeff) Stang of Delafield; numerous nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law. Preceding Jim in death are his first wife: Kathleen, his parents, and one sister: Jane Krueger.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 26, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. in Saint Peter Catholic Church, 435 High Avenue, with Reverend Robert Kollath officiating. Interment will follow the mass at Lake View Memorial Park with military honors provided by United Veterans Honor Guard. A time of visitation and support will be held at Seefeld Family of Funeral Chapels, 1025 Oregon Street, on Wednesday May 25, 2005 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Jim's family is establishing a memorial in his memory. A special thank you to the 1st floor nursing staff at Mercy Medical Center, Father Kollath, and Sister Diane at Saint Peter Catholic Church for the love, concern, and care given to Jim during his stay.
