Obituary

James Paul Matejowec, age 75, passed away at Aurora Medical Center on January 24, 2004 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on January 30, 1928 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, the son of the late Joseph and Frances (Jiricka) Matejowec.
He graduated from Oshkosh High School in 1946 and served in the Marine Corps for two years as an aircraft mechanic in the Asian Pacific. On August 30, 1949 he married Jane Bongert and they enjoyed 54 years of happiness. He owned and operated Kalamazoo Heating Co from 1951-1965 and then was a steamfitter at E.C. Merrill, Inc. for 21 years and Gartman Mechanical Contractors for 12 years. During retirement, he enjoyed wintering in Florida, swimming, and walking the beach. He spent many hours enjoying nature by walking in the woods and sitting at the end of his pier. During his life, Jim loved being with his family and friends, as well as hunting, fishing, playing cards, watching football, especially when his grandson Joshua was playing. He was a member of the Local 400 Plumbers and Fitters Union, American Legion, Elks, and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
His memory will live on through his wife, Jane Matejowec; three adoring daughters, Lee Ann Lowe (Ken) of Mill Valley, CA, Lisa Pendergast (John) of Cedarburg, WI, and Carla Padilla (Jesse) of Oshkosh, WI; four grandchildren, Ashley and Lindsay Lowe of Mill Valley CA and Melissa and Joshua Pendergast of Cedarburg, WI; a sister, Helene Kleinschmidt of Oshkosh, WI; and a brother Joseph Matejowec of Neenah, WI; two nieces, Lynda Kleinschmidt and Sharon (Matejowec) Gebhardt, two nephews, Wayne Matejowec and Donald Matejowec; and many close friends. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his sister-in-law June Matejowec, brother-in-law George Kleinschmidt, and nephew, Joseph Matejowec, Jr.

Visitation for Jim will be held from 4-6:00 pm on Tuesday, Jan 27, 2004 at St. Raphael Catholic Church, 830 Westhaven Drive, Oshkosh, WI followed by a funeral service at 6:00 P.M. led by Father Daniel Felton. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established by the family.
