James R. "Lucky Trucker" Nelson, Jr. age 57, of Oshkosh, died unexpectedly Tuesday, December 7, 2004 in Knoxville, Tennessee. He was born on June 16, 1947 in Oshkosh to James R. and Marie S. (Payne) Nelson. James was a truck driver of 20 years, having worked for Eckeland Carriers of Neenah from 2000 to August of 2004, when he became an independent owner/operator for Anderson Trucking Service. James enjoyed "Oldie" music, glass painting, computers, and was an avid reader.
Survivors include son and daughter: James Nelson III and Malinda Botchuck along with seven other children; his fiancee: Sandy Vanden Hoogen; five brothers: John W. Nelson, Charles S. Nelson, Randy H. Nelson, Mike A. Nelson, and Bill W. Nelson; three sisters: Ruth P. James, Cathy Jo Rucks, and Debbie M. Nelson; step-mother: Martha O. Nelson; step-brother: Daniel Kowalske; step-sister: Constance Kowalske; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding James in death are his parents.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, December 12, 2004 at 3:00 p.m. in Seefeld Family of Funeral Chapels, 300 North Eagle Street, with Reverend Marvin Ahlborn officiating and interment will be at Riverside Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral chapel from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Sunday. James' family in his memory is establishing a memorial.
James loved the big trucks and his dream came true to become an owner/operator. James will be sadly missed by all.
