Obituary

James W. Schoonover, 80, passed away January 15, 2025, in Oshkosh, WI. He was born September 15,1944 to parents, Hazel (Flanagan) and William Schoonover.

Jim married Betty Ann Boening on June 5, 1965, in Berlin, WI and together they had two children, Cheryl and Jeffrey. Betty passed away on June 10, 1992, after 27 years of marriage. After high school, Jim worked at Mercury Marine and then later went on to work at C.D. Smith in Fond du Lac and was a longstanding member of the Ironworkers Union, Local 383. He loved going hunting, especially for pheasant and deer. Jim enjoyed spending time outside with his family and working on the family farm.

Jim is survived by his children, Cheryl (Peter) Rausch and Jeffrey (Jill) Schoonover; grandchildren, Nathan (Reghan Berg) Rausch and Matthew Rausch; sisters and brothers, Susan (Philip) Kratz, Vicki Behm, Michael Schoonover, Patrick (Connie) Schoonover, Gerald Schoonover and John (Debora) Schoonover; sisters-in-law, Jeanette Boening, Connie Boening and Jean Ann Boening; he is further survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Preceding Jim, his wife, Betty Schoonover; parents, William and Hazel Schoonover; father and mother-in-law, Edward and Margaret Boening; sisters-in-law, Jodie Schoonover and Catherine Hopperdietzel; brothers-in-law, Carl Boening, Richard Boening, David Boening and James (infant) Boening; as well as several other extended family members.

A visitation will be held at Kwiatkowski Funeral Home, 425 Jefferson Ave. Omro, WI on Thursday evening, January 23, from 4pm to 8pm, and again the following morning, Friday January 24, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 730 Madison Ave. Omro, WI from 10am to 11am, with mass to follow. Jim will be laid to rest next to his wife, Betty in Omro Cemetery following services.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim's honor to the Oshkosh Area Humane Society or Wisconsin Alzheimer's Association.

His family would like to extend a thank you for the love and support from extended family and friends, a huge thank you to the wonderful staff at Bethel Home who treated him with dignity and helped him with his needs.
