Obituary

James H. Yaeger Sr., age 80, of Oshkosh, died Wednesday, March 26, 2014. Born on February 3, 1934, in Wittenberg, Wisconsin, the son of Harold and Margaret (Kobiske) Yaeger, Jim married Charlotte Johnson in Wittenberg on June 8, 1963. Charlotte preceded Jim in death on August 2, 2009.
An U.S. Army Veteran, Jim proudly served his country from 1956-1958 and then four more years in the Army Reserves. He owned and operated the Yaeger Pontiac Garage in Wittenberg until 1979. He and Charlotte founded the Wittenberg Ambulance Service in 1970 and operated the service until 1985. Always a civic minded individual, Jim served on the Wittenberg Fire Department from 1955-1986, becoming the Fire Chief for 19 years before his retirement. He served on the Wittenberg Village Board for a number of years and served on various boards for St. Paul Lutheran Church. Employed by the Wittenberg-Birnamwood School District for 44 years, Jim was a Transportation Supervisor in the transportation department. He was a life-member of VFW Post 8068 in Elderon, Wisconsin and a current member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Oshkosh. Jim and Charlotte enjoyed traveling to Laughlin, Nevada, for a few months during the winter. He also enjoyed his many trips to Las Vegas and playing Poker with the boys.
Survivors include his children, Lisa (Gordon) Baken of Marion, Kristi (Jon) Sickler of Darboy, James (Lynn) Yaeger Jr. of Rosholt, David (Heather) Yaeger of Wittenberg, and Greg (Dena) Yaeger of Oshkosh; 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Yaeger of Wittenberg. Preceding Jim in death is his wife, parents, and two brothers, Harold Yaeger Jr. and John Yaeger.
Memorial funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. in Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 2450 W. 9th Av., Oshkosh, with Reverend Roger A. Erdman officiating. A time of visiting and sharing of memories will be held on Tuesday from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at the church. Visitation will also be held at Schmidt-Schulta Funeral Home in Wittenberg on Monday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Interment will be at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Wittenberg at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday with full Military Honors.
