Jane Loper, lifelong resident of Oshkosh, died early Tuesday morning, February 24, 2004. She was 93. Jane was born on November 18, 1910 to the late George and Ella Bohlson; sister Bobby Elizabeth was welcomed into the family on August 15, 1913. Jane graduated Oshkosh High School in 1929, and fondly remembered her success in track and field as fastest runner . On June 26, 1929, she married George Wilson Loper. Twin daughters Jean Charleen and Jane Ellen were born on April 7, 1931. The girls were top achievers, and both went on to earn their medical degrees from University of Wisconsin in 1956. Husband George joined Jane s father in the family jewelry and watch-repair business in 1944. Bohlson-Loper Jewelers has continued as a mainstay in Oshkosh for over fifty years.
Jane found beauty in all things and all people. She took tremendous pleasure in her work at Bohlson-Loper and in her ever-expanding circle of friends. In 1982, friend Ted joined Jane and George at Bohlson-Loper, and grew to be a member of the family.
Preceded in death by her daughters, her husband of over 50 years and her sister, Jane is survived by son-in-law Gomer W. Roberts, five grandchildren as well as Ted and five great-grandchildren together with Ted s daughter Mercedes and son Mitchell. The children of daughter Jane Loper Sybers are Robert Sybers, Greta Sybers (James Stawniak) and Erika Sybers (Scott Cahalon), all of Atlanta, Georgia. The children of daughter Jean Loper Roberts are Julia Lewald (Eric) of Los Angeles, California and Jennifer Raiklen (David) of the Pacific Northwest. Great-grandchildren are Emma Jane Cahalon, Carter William Lewald and Alec Bohlson Lewald, and Reveille Jean Wiederspahn Raiklen and Sterling Raiklen.
The gathering to remember Jane will be held on Saturday, February 28th, from 2-4:00 PM at the Seefeld Family of Funeral Chapels, 1025 Oregon Street. A celebration of her life will immediately follow in the funeral chapel. She will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Salvation Army or the Oshkosh Area Humane Society are appreciated.
