Jean McDaniels 81, died peacefully on November 13th.
Jean taught for 36 years in various schools in Oshkosh, including Lakeside, Roosevelt, and, Perry Tipler. Jean taught her first two years in a rural two room school in Jackson, WI. She preferred teaching English, Reading, and Social Studies, and was student council advisor for 22 years. Jean had a master's degree in Counseling and Reading. Teaching reading was her passion. She also volunteered after retirement in the Adult Literacy program in Oshkosh until health conditions caused her to stop
Jean enjoyed all sports; playing them as well as watching. She called herself "the greatest sports spectator alive." Her favorite sport was football. If you were in the neighborhood while Jean was watching a football game, you knew it. She was a ferocious cheerleader, physically and vocally.
As a young girl she played violin in the Honor Roll Orchestra. She greatly loved music of all kinds.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Mac; one son, Casey; one granddaughter Lauren Rankin; and three brothers and two sisters. She will be missed by her son Kelly, daughter Russelle, sister Dorothy Voss, brother Hub Meyer and her grandchildren Kelsey and Kassidy McDaniels, and Hannah Rankin. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established at Elijah's Place Courtyard. Jean loved the gardens and watching things grow. A special thank you to the wonderful and caring staff at Elijah's, who always treated her with dignity and respect.
Family and friends will gather on Tuesday, November 17, 2009, at the Seefeld Family of Funeral Chapels, 1025 Oregon Street, from 10-12:00 to remember Jean and all that made her special.
