Jeanette O. Hebblewhite, 99, of Oshkosh, died on Wednesday, January 7, 2015, at Bella Vista Manor in Oshkosh. She was born August 31, 1915, at the family home in Oshkosh, the youngest of three children of Arthur and Genevive (Schmidt) Hebblewhite.
After graduation from Oshkosh High School in 1933, she completed her degree at the State Teachers College in Oshkosh. Jeanette then embarked on a 46 year career as an elementary school teacher at Smith, Longfellow, and finally, Emmeline Cook.
Jeanette was a life-long member of Trinity Episcopal Church where she spent many hours as a devoted servant and volunteer. Her volunteerism extended into many areas – Boys and Girls Club, EAA, the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation, and as a member of the Mercy Hospital Auxiliary. She had a passion for card playing, especially bridge, belonging to numerous clubs that sustained members for decades. And over the years, she travelled extensively to Canada, Europe and throughout the United States with tour groups and friends.
She is survived by her niece, Mary Ellen (Carl) Kuehne of DePere, and her nephew, Tom Hebblewhite of Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Walter and Clem; and her life-long best friend, Karla Schloerb. Our family deeply appreciates the care and comfort afforded Jeanette by the staff at Bella Vista for over four years.
Funeral services for Jeanette will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2015, at Trinity Episcopal Church, 203 Algoma Blvd., with Father Cunningham officiating. Family and friends may visit at the church from 12:00 noon until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m., with a reception to follow.
A memorial to the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation, Jeanette Hebblewhite Scholarship Fund, to support the education of future teachers, has been established.
