Obituary

Jeanette Mae "Mumma" Schlaak, age 91, died on April 15, 2015, at Oakwood Manor in Oshkosh, surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. She was born in Oshkosh on May 26, 1923, to Edward and Ida Wohlt. It was in Oshkosh that she met Raymond H. Schlaak. They were united in marriage on November 1, 1941. She worked for a short time at the old Ben Franklin Store and also as a home health caregiver. For most of her life, she was a full-time mom raising 6 children and helping to raise two grandchildren.
She was a 50 year resident of Hubbard street. She thoroughly enjoyed visiting with her neighbors the Kujawas, the Showers, the Sanabrias, the Genals and the Webers before moving to Glynn Park. She opened her home to everyone and was a great cook, noted for her German dumplings. She worried about everyone except herself to say the least. She enjoyed gardening and caring for her flowers, going for car rides and hearing about her grandkids' activities. She was known to many people as Mumma Schlaak, especially Jeff's close friends. She wanted to thank Mark Engleman, manager of Glynn Park, all the people from the 2nd floor, and especially Myra, her neighbor who helped her out in times of need. She also wanted to thank the staff of Oakwood Manor. Especially Kari, Velvet, Brenna and Brooke, for their help during her short stay there.
Jeanette is survived by her family: daughters Susan Zuhlke, Bonnie (Terry) Lewis, Dawn DeVoe (special friend John), Tonya (John) Schulz; sons Dennis (Tracie) Schlaak, Jeff (Denise) Schlaak; grandchildren Cheryl, Deanna (Fred), Jeri, Chad (Kristen), Amber (John), Troy (Rebecca), Nicole (Andy), Molly, Samuel, Mandy, Jake, Nathan and many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Ruth Hoffman, brother-in-law, Donald Schlaak plus many nieces and nephews. Preceding Jeanette in death was her husband, Ray; her parents, brothers Harold, Ray, Carlton, Norbert and Robert Wohlt; numerous brothers and sisters-in-law; sons-in-law Duane Zuhlke and Galen DeVoe; grandsons Matthew, Jay and Kelly Zuhlke; great-grandson Kyle Gessert.
