Obituary
Jeanne Elaine (Davis) Gay, age 94, passed away on April 14, 2025, at Evergreen in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. She was born May 27, 1930, in Oshkosh, the daughter of Walter and Gertrude (Danforth) Davis.
Jeanne grew up a farm girl in Omro, Wisconsin. She graduated from Omro High School in 1948 and enrolled at the Wisconsin State Teachers college in Oshkosh earning a degree in education. She taught elementary school for 8 years before stepping away to raise her children. She returned to the workforce later having jobs where she could connect with people. She was a clerk for Heiss Bakery, cashier at Reichenberger grocery, bank teller and back to the classroom at Learning Train Daycare.
Jeanne married Carroll Gay on July 3, 1954, at the First Baptist Church in Omro, WI. Together they had three children in Oshkosh; Janelle (Bill) Brady, Barbara (Jonathan) Uecker and David (Nancy) Gay; she was a grandmother to Sarah (Nathan Ahlberg) Brady, Patrick (Craig Schlagel) Brady, Peter and Logan Uecker; great-grandmother to Penelope Ahlberg and Baby Boy Ahlberg due in July.
Jeanne loved her family gatherings, especially making her much requested German potato salad. Jeanne helped her children and grandchildren love to play games, do art projects, canning produce picked from the family garden, read books, bake cakes and cookies and mainly just spending time with them. She thrived on actively participating in any activity at Evergreen. She was known for her warmth and kindness, quick smile, good conversation, loved word searches, hot black coffee and sweets.
Her memory will live on through her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Joan Lorge. Jeanne was preceded in death by her husband, Carroll in 2010; her three brothers, Duane (Virginia) Davis, Reide (Ferne) Davis and Dale (Phyllis) Davis; brothers-in-law Wayne (Rae) Gay and Gerald Lorge; sister-in-law, MaryEllen Harvath.
Memorial services for Jeanne will be held on Friday, April 25, 2025. Visitation from 9:30-11:30am with service to follow at Wesley United Methodist Church, 761 Florida Ave. Oshkosh, WI.
The family extends a special thank you to all the Evergreen staff members who have been with Mom for over 12 years. Your care, compassion, and interactions meant the world to her. You gave her daily life purpose, and we greatly appreciate it.
