Jerome "Jerry" Emmett Meid, age 83, passed away on July 11, 2024, at Brewster Village in Appleton, Wisconsin. He was born on February 16, 1941, in West Allis, Wisconsin to parents, Roman and Florence Meid.
Jerry proudly served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Simon Bolivar Ballistic Submarine as a navigator and was honorably discharged after 6 years as an E-5 Petty Officer Second Class (PO2). He also attended the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee – and obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1977. Jerry worked as a Quality Control Manager for various electronic component manufacturing companies – Retiring from Philips in 2000.
On March 21, 1964, he married the love of his life, Alice Lechner at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Together, they raised two children.
Jerry was an outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. He was also an avid bird watcher and an award-winning bird carver. His passions included singing at Catholic funerals, playing chess and cards, and he was a golf enthusiast on and off the course.
He is survived by his wife, Alice Meid; sons, Mike (Laura Jahnke) Meid and Dan (Vickie) Meid; sister, Darleen (Robert) Schulte; sisters-in-law, Lyn Meid, Sue Meid, and Betty (John) Joss; brothers-in-law, Joe (Karen) Lechner and Tom (Maureen) Lechner and many beloved family and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Roman and Florence Meid; brothers, Richard "Dick" Meid and Tom Meid; and parents-in-law, Joseph "Joe" and Alma Lechner.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, from 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm, service will begin at 2:00 pm, at Seefeld Funeral Home, 1025 Oregon St., Oshkosh, WI 54902. His final resting place will be at Lake View Memorial Park Cemetery, 2786 Algoma Blvd., Oshkosh, WI, 54901 at 3:00 pm with military honors.
Thank you to everyone who took exceptional care of Jerry from the time he entered the hospital to the time of his passing, especially the staff at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center – Appleton, Wisconsin, ThedaCare Hospice – Appleton, Wisconsin and Brewster Village long term care facility – Appleton, Wisconsin. Your kindness and compassion did not go unnoticed.
