Jerome B. "Romy" Norkofski, age 89, of Oshkosh, died Friday evening, December 23, 2011. Born in Oshkosh on October 29, 1922, to Frank and Mary (Zarter) Norkofski, Romy married Elaine Pollnow in 1944 at Columbus, Georgia. Elaine preceded Romy in death on September 5, 2004.
A machinist, Romy was employed by Rockwell Company until his retirement in 1977. He was a member of UAW Local #291, a member of Wisconsin Trap Shooters Association (State Champion in 1974), Fox Valley Huntsmen's Club and Oshkosh Gun Club ( he was often called upon to repair and maintain the trap throwers). Romy was active in the family bar business, especially for the Friday and Saturday night fish fry, were he cleaned and prepared 400-500 fish each night. Here he also perfected his Tom and Jerry's drink from scratch, later teaching his granddaughters his recipe. Summers spent at the cottage on Plummer's Point were relaxing for Romy. During WWII, Romy served his country in the U.S. Army, seeing action in Normandy, France, and in Belgium.
Left to mourn his passing is a son, Gary (Sharla) Norkofski of Oshkosh; two granddaughters, Danielle (Dan) Sleik of Oshkosh and Callie (Gary Lamp) Norkofski of Winchester; a great-granddaughter, Hayley Sleik; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Milton and Enice Pollnow of Neenah; nieces and nephew, Carole, June, Marilynn, and Emory, with several other nieces and nephews. Preceding Romy in death is his wife, parents, two sisters, Margaret Schneider and Lucille Hintz; and two brothers, Ed and Ray Norkofski.
