Jerry W. Poad, age 69, of Rural Ripon, died of a sudden illness, early Friday morning January 30, 2004 at Mercy Medical Center in Oshkosh. He was born November 30, 1934 in Hancock, Wisconsin the son of Donald and Evelyn (Walker) Poad.
Jerry attended grade school in Hancock, was a 1952 graduate of Tri-County High School in Plainfield, WI and received his Bachelors Degree in Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Stout Campus in Menomonie, WI. in 1956. Jerry proudly served his country in the United States Army. He married Raeburn B. Ellis on September 4, 1954. She preceded him in death on January 20, 1974. Jerry retired from Ingersoll Equipment Co., Inc. of Winneconne in November of 1996 after 27 years of service.
Everyone that knew Jerry will fondly recall how organized he was. These organizational skills came in handy when he would do family genealogy. He would spend hours in his basement workshop refinishing guns and could often be found outdoors deer hunting and duck hunting. Jerry was devoted to his family and always looked forward to family get-togethers. He married June Kratz on December 18, 1976 at the Waukau United Methodist Church and together they enjoyed traveling and antiquing.
Jerry is survived by his wife: June, son: Shane (Christina) Poad of Winneconne, step-children: Mark (Lanna) Wirch of Oshkosh, Darin Fleck of Hortonville, WI., and Eric (Kim) Fleck of Oshkosh, Grandchildren: Jason, Heather, Matthew, Brian, Nicholas, Jeremy, Jenna & Trista, sister; Donna (Mike) Dornik of Hancock, WI., other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and son; Shawn.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 3, 2004 at the Omro Funeral Home from 3-6 p.m. Funeral Service 6 p.m with a time of fellowship and luncheon to follow. Burial will be in the Hancock Cemetery on Thursday, February 5, at 2 p.m. for those who wish to attend. A memorial has been established.
