Joan R. Nieman, age 79, of Oshkosh, passed away on Tuesday, April 12, 2016. She was born in Oshkosh on July 1, 1936 the daughter of the late John and Lucille (Schumacher) Kametler. On April 28, 1960 she married Theodore "Ted" Nieman at Peace Lutheran Church, Oshkosh. Joan worked for Bethel Home in food service for many years. Her real career was raising her family and spending time with her grandchildren. Going to church and sitting in "her" pew every weekend was very important. She will be remembered for her love of vacationing, which included fishing in Canada and frequent trips to Branson, MO with Angie.
Joan is survived by her children: Rose (Scott) Brownlea, John (Edie) Nieman, Holly (Jim) Bishop, and Paul (Karen) Nieman: grandchildren: Bobby, Jeremy, Brian, Amanda, Lucas, Rachel, Matthew, Christopher, Becky, and Andrew Nieman and Michelle Nieman; several great-grandchildren: brother: Ronald (Barbara) Kametler; sisters-in-law, Angeline Matsche and Carol Kametler; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore; her parents; brothers: Gerald Hable, Dennis (Nona) Hable, and John Kametler; and sister-in-law, Victoria Nieman.
The funeral service will be at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, April 15, 2016 at GRACE LUTHERAN EV. CHURCH, 913 Nebraska St., Oshkosh, with Rev. Chadwich Graham officiating. Friends will be received at the church on Friday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in Peace Lutheran Cemetery, Oshkosh.
The family extends a special thank you to Pastor Graham, Pastor Duquaine and staff minister Matthew Werner, for being Joan's spiritual shepherds; Angie, for taking Joan to her appointments; Dr. Klinkhammer and the staff at Fox Valley Hematology and Oncology; and the staff at Mercy Medical Center.
