Joan E. Wortman, age 81, passed away at home on Saturday, May 5, 2018. She was born in Oshkosh on August 28, 1936 the daughter of the late Johannes and Eva (Morgan) Vandermolen. She met and married John Wortman while both were in the Navy in Bainbridge, MD, on February 6, 1956. They were married for 62 years. Since 1964, Joan was a long-time member of First United Methodist Church, Oshkosh. Joan worked for several companies which included Tel-Sec and retiring from UW-Oshkosh as the receptionist for the Dean of Students. She enjoyed gardening and birds, and was known to be an avid member of the sewing club where she could be with friends. Joan will be remembered for her big heart and always being available to family and friends.
Joan is survived by her husband, John; sons: Mark Wortman and David (Cindy) Wortman: grandchildren: Amy (Daniel) DeKeyser, Hannah Wortman, Jonathan Wortman and Paula (Matt) Rady; great-granddaughter, Sienna Rady; sister, Ellen Vandermolen; sister-in-law, Judith Vandermolen; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, John Peter Vandermolen.
A visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, May 11, 2018 at FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 700 W. Linwood Ave., Oshkosh, with Rev. Russell Frees officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Memorial Park, Oshkosh.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund in Joan's name is being established.
