John C. Hale, age 62, of Oshkosh, died Saturday, October 16, 2004, after a 2 ? year valiant and courageous battle with cancer, at Mercy Medical Center, with his wife, Valerie, at his side. He was born on July 22, 1942 in Red Fox, Kentucky to Z.D. and Adaline (Clark) Hale. John married Valerie LaRue on October 26, 1997 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
John was employed at Rockwell/Meritor as a machinist for 30 years before retiring in 1998. He attended New Life Community Church, was a member of Oshkosh Earth Science Club, the USS Valiant, and the Tularosa Basin Rock Hounds of New Mexico, and a member of UAW Local 291. He enjoyed woodworking from craft items to major building projects. John attended Berea College at Berea, Kentucky and was a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University at Richmond with B.A. and Industrial Technology degrees. He taught high school shop classes for 3 years.
Survivors include his wife: Valerie LaRue of Oshkosh; one son: John T. Hale of Stanton, Kentucky; one daughter: Jodie (Mark) Brandenburg of Stanton, Kentucky; one sister: Joan (Ken) Enochs of Hazard, Kentucky; one brother: Z.D. Hale Jr. of Lexington, Kentucky; mother-in-law: Sally (Dennis) Bucholtz of Weyauwega; father-in-law: Glen (Carla) LaRue of Milton, West Virginia; brother-in-law: Kreg LaRue of Hortonville; three grandchildren and one step-grandchild; best friends: Maynard and Kate Tapp of Weyauwega; Jim and Marie Metcalf of Alamogordo, New Mexico; and many other friends. Preceding John in death are his parents and a half-brother.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, October 23, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. in Seefeld Family of Funeral Chapels, 1025 Oregon Street, with Reverend Mark Elliott officiating. Family and friends may call on Saturday from 11:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral chapel. Memorials to the Kidney Cancer Association would be appreciated.
