Obituary

John Edward Martin, age 85, of Oshkosh, was reunited with his wife, Mildred, in Heaven above, on Sunday, June 12, 2005. He was born July 8, 1919 in Oshkosh to George and Alice (Cahill) Martin. He was orphaned at an early age and was raised by Edward and Josephine Martin. On July 17, 1940 he married Mildred H. Graper in Oshkosh. They enjoyed their time together and will be celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary together in Heaven, having never spent an anniversary apart. John was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. At age 19 he began working at Wisconsin Axle, from where he retired in 1984. He served in the Pacific Theatre during World War II, fighting in Okinawa and serving in China during the Chinese Occupation. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and served as treasurer and helped in the building of Grace School. He loved poetry and the works of William Shakespeare; he would often recite the great works he enjoyed.
John is survived by his children: Shareen (Leonard) Halvorson of Springfield, Minnesota; John Edward (Joan) Martin II of Muskego; David George (Diana) Martin of Oshkosh; and Marilyn (Richard) Siegler of Manitowoc. 19 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and sister: Marge Martin of Fond du Lac further survives him. John is preceded in death by 2 infants; a granddaughter; sisters: Betty Martin, Katherine Caird, and Mary Woeshnick; and brother: George Martin.
Funeral services for John will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, June 17, 2005, at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 913 Nebraska Street, Pastor Dan Krause officiating. Family and friends are invited to gather for at time of visitation and support at the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church on Friday from 11:00 A.M. until the time of service. Entombment in Lake View Memorial Park will take place immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers a memorial is being established.
