John Gordon "Mac" McDonald, age 86, of Omro, died early Tuesday morning, September 4, 2007, at his residence. Mac was born February 15, 1921, in Chicago, the son of James and Mae (Bang) McDonald. He moved to Omro as a child and had graduated from Omro High School in 1939. While in school, he enjoyed playing football and basketball. Mac, along with his family had saddle horses. He helped with the chores of these horses until the time he entered into the service. Mac served four years with the 1st Marine Division in the South Pacific including, Battles of Guadalcanal, Okinawa, Peleliu and China. In 1955, he married Betty Andraska. Family and friends will fondly recall how Mac enjoyed raising hunting dogs, hunting, fishing, his beagle, Pete and his cat Suzee, who was his 4 legged bed partner. Mac had worked for and retired from the City of Oshkosh Police Department after 26 years of service. He was a member of NRA, Springbrook Sportsmen's Club, North American Hunting Club, V.F.W., 2nd Amendment Foundation, 1st Marine Division, China Marines, Marine Corps League, Wisconsin Professional Police Assoc. and the Lost 40 Hunting Camp.
Mac is survived by his wife of 52 years, Betty. His son, John Michael, from a previous marriage. In keeping with Mac's wishes, there will be no formal services.
