Obituary

John R. Niemuth, age 85, of Mukilteo, Washington, passed away at his residence Thursday, November 25, 2004. He was born on November 19, 1919 in Oshkosh to John Ferdinand and Minnie (Tokarski) Niemuth. John was a member of the Mother Church, the First Church of Christ Scientist, Boston, Massachusetts. He graduated from Oshkosh High School in January 1937.
John became a licensed pilot, bought an airplane, and gave airplane rides and flying lessons in the Chilton area for several years. He served his country during WWII in the Army Air Corps from July 16, 1942 until his discharge on April 14, 1945, flying transport planes in the Air Transport Command from China to India.
John married Estelle Pennell on September 12, 1947 and they resided in Oshkosh while he attended Oshkosh Teachers College, graduating in 1949. He taught high school in Janesville for one year. He attended graduate school in Berkley, California, where he received his Masters Degree in Educational Psychology. John taught high school in National City and Chula Vista, California from 1955 until 1984 where he became the head coordinator of the gifted program for the Sweetwater School District. He retired in 1984 and they moved to Mukilteo, Washington.
John is survived by his wife: Estelle, of 57 years; one sister: Geraldine Potratz of Fremont; six nieces and nephews: Peggy Potratz Hoeft of Oshkosh; Terry Potratz Pitzo of Lake Tomahawk; John Potratz III of Fremont; Connie (Dan) Potratz Watson of Uniontown, Pennsylvania; Jeff (Susan) Potratz of Weyauwega; and Shelley (Doug) Potratz Stockard of Weyauwega. Ten great-nieces and nephews and three great great nieces also survive him. Preceding John in death are his parents; one brother: Oliver Niemuth; three sisters: Wolga Niemuth, Selma Kellett, and Anita Olson; three brothers-in-law: Jay Kellett, Gilbert Olson, and John Potratz II; and one great-niece: Heather Potratz.
Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, December 3, 2004 in Seefeld Family of Funeral Chapels, 1025 Oregon Street. Family and friends may call at the funeral chapel on Friday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of services with interment at Riverside Cemetery.
