John G. "Gil" Searls, age 66, of Pickett, died Saturday evening, March 7, 2009 at Aurora Medical Center, after a short, but hard-fought, battle with pulmonary fibrosis. Born on August 15, 1942 in Oshkosh to Arthur and Edwina (Gilray) Searls, Gil married Susan Kroening on June 19, 1965 in Oshkosh.
A City of Oshkosh Firefighter for 28 years, before retiring in December of 2004, Gil enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, and camping. He was a member of St. John Catholic Church prior to the formation of St. Jude the Apostle Parish.
Left to mourn his passing are his wife, Susan Searls of Pickett; three children, Christine Klemmer of Omro, Sarah (Steven) Stini of Omro, and Michael (Angela) Searls of Green Bay; eight grandchildren, Benjamin, Noah, Andrew, Grace, Abigail, Michael, Lauren, and Adrianna; his father, Arthur Searls of Wild Rose; two brothers, James (Cheryl) Searls of Madison, and Peter Searls of Wild Rose; a brother-in-law, Phil (Judy) Kroening of Oshkosh; an aunt, Louise Weiner of Oshkosh; life-long friend and cousin, Daniel (Barb) Richardson of Oshkosh; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Preceding Gil in death are his mother and a cousin, Michael Weiner.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 13, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Jude the Apostle Parish, (St. Vincent site), 1225 Oregon Street, with Reverend Jason Blahnik officiating. Interment will follow at Tice Cemetery near Waukau, Wisconsin. A time of visitation and sharing memories will be held on Thursday from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Seefeld Family of Funeral Chapels, 300 North Eagle Street, and on Friday from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. A memorial is being established by family members in Gil's memory.
