John O. Slocum, age 87 of Omro, passed away expectedly in his home from the effects of Alzheimer's disease on May 13, 2014.

John was born on May 28, 1926 in Mosinee, Wisconsin to Clarence E. and Cora I. (Olstad) Slocum. After graduation from Mosinee High School in 1944, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He married Marnie Pease on November 20, 1948. During their twenty-one year marriage, they had two daughters, Ruth "Ree" Maureen and Laurie Ann, and owned and operated a beauty parlor together in Marinette, Wisconsin.

John moved to the Oshkosh area in the late 1960's, where he met his loving wife of 39 years, Teresa (Terry) Stricker. They married on August 10, 1974 and had two daughters, Katherine "Kathy" Jean and Stacy Ann. In 1976, they built their home outside of Omro where John loved to work in the woods and on the small farm. John was a realtor through the 1970's and 1980's and worked with the Oshkosh City Assessor's office through the 1990's and until his final retirement in 2003. He also helped operate Terry's restaurants, the R&M Cafe and the Tudor House.

John was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters: Mary Hemenway and Carolyn Julesberg; and nephews: John (Joan) Hemenway and William (Ginny) Hemenway. He is survived by his wife, Terry Slocum; four daughters: Ree Slocum, Laurie (Dean) Krisko, Kathy (Steve) Cady, and Stacy Salman (Salman Hussain); six grandchildren: Montana Cady, Gage Cady, Samantha Krisko, Angel Krisko, Ruth Krisko and Katheryn Krisko; nieces: Karen Julesberg, Ruth (Richard) Lee, and Janet Hemenway; and nephew, Keith (Pat) Hemenway. John's last few years were eased due to the help of friend and neighbor, Gary Tritt. Numerous other neighbors and friends brightened his days with their visits.
